Water

Water – a fairly simple chemical substance – made of the one of the lightest material Hydrogen and Oxygen; Called as H2O – made of Hydrogen bonds with Oxygen. Ok, ok… enough of chemistry!!! What makes this compound so special? People don’t think about it as any other chemical. When people can tell smoke has Carbon-mono-oxide, when they tell Gold is a metal, when they tell we breathe in Oxygen which is an element – we never tell we drink H2O. We consider water as a part of nature – forget that it is just a compound. So, what is so special about this water? It is its universal use. Water is needed by man, animals, plants. It is needed to quench your thirst, to wash clothes, to clean house, for everything. We are made of 70 % of water. But are we really realizing the need of water? May be because it is so much available in the form of sea water and because it is a part of our life – we really did not realize how much important water is.

We spend water as if it is our own property. There are many instances in which we people misuse water. We need tap water to be flowing all the time till we finish brushing in the morning. We can wash vessels only when the tap water flows non-stop. We need washing machine to wash clothes – even if it just 1 set of jean and shirt. Now-a-days we have got the new technology of reverse osmosis – to get drinking water. This method wastes twice the amount of water we get as drinking water. You get 10 liters of drinking water – and waste 20 liters of water. This impure water could be used for washing clothes or vessels. But most people using this technology just leave the water to flow down.

We keep wasting water like this in each and every activity we do. I am not going to tell facts about what will happen after 50 or 60 years. There are so many research and surveys telling all those facts – which none of us are bothered to listen to. I am not going to write big essays to tell about water. We don’t need words to teach how water is important.

Just see the world around. You don’t need researchers to tell how much important water is.
Look at the dry wells and ponds. Look at the dry river basins. Look at people standing in queue for drinking water. Look at dry farms.

If you think, all this difficult, the simplest thing you could do is – try to be without drinking water for half a day (just 12 hours). Then everyone would realize the need of water. You would realize why water is important and why everyone needs it. This small exercise can teach you a great lesson. Need of water has no discrimination – no color, race, religion, caste, sex, language – everyone needs water.

Save water – it is rightly called the “Elixir of Life”
